Take care of your heart for World heart day!

This Sunday 29 September is World heart day. For Meander medisch centrum, atelier PRO worked on a new wing for the CCU ward - the Coronary Care Unit, a highly specialised ward where heart care is central.

What is especially important in a Coronary Care Unit is the link between medical surgery and nursing care. Patients on a cardiac ward need specific aftercare after surgery, which requires continuous monitoring. Therefore, the new wing at Meander includes a nursing ward as well as Hotfloors – operating theatres with the associated technology and support rooms. All patients on the nursing ward have a single room with a private bathroom - which is certainly not standard in a hospital. Furthermore, we designed the CCU's patient rooms so that they all have large windows to the outside and are located amidst the greenery, giving the patients a beautiful and soothing view.

What is also special within the new wing is the hybrid operating theatre. Of the three operating theatres, one has a hybrid set-up, which, with an area of 90 m², is twice the size of a regular operating theatre. As a result, a large number of different medical procedures can be performed here - as there is more space for different types of equipment. A suspended C-arm for X-ray images has also been used here, keeping the entire floor - and thus the entire work floor - clear as much as possible.
